Michelle Harrell, Principal

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year at Darden Middle School—where every day is a fresh opportunity to grow, discover, and shine! Let's get back to showing our TROJAN PRIDE!

Whether you are returning to our school community or joining us for the first time, I want you to know how excited we are to have you as part of Darden Middle School. This year is full of promise, and I could not be more proud of the momentum we’ve built together. Last year, we made real progress—growing academically, strengthening relationships, and redefining what success looks like in our building. But we’re not stopping there!

At Darden, we believe middle school is more than a bridge between elementary and high school—it’s a launchpad. Our mission is to inspire every student to dream big, work hard, and become the best version of themselves. That means challenging minds, nurturing hearts, and cheering each other on every step of the way.

Expect weekly phone calls and steady social media updates from me, and I’ll expect phone calls and emails from you anytime. Feel free to call me at (252) 206-4973, email me at michelle.harrell@wilsonschoolsnc.net, or make an appointment to meet with me at Darden! I am open to any conversations that will result in a healthy education for our students.

Parents, your partnership is powerful. When school and home work hand in hand, amazing things happen. Stay connected with us, reach out with questions, and celebrate the wins—big and small—with your child.

Students, get ready! This is your year to take on new challenges, find your voice, and make your mark. Show up, be kind, ask questions, and continue to show that Trojan pride. We’re here to guide you, support you, and help you soar.  Together, we’re building something special. Let’s make this year our best yet!

Sincerely,

Michelle Harrell

Wil Farmer, Assistant Principal

It is an honor to serve as the Assistant Principal of our Darden Trojan family. I bring over 27 years of experience in education, having had the privilege of working in Wilson County Schools, Durham Public Schools, Atlanta Public Schools (GA), and Fulton County Schools (GA). Throughout these years, I have served in many roles—classroom teacher, teacher leader, behavioral specialist, administrative mentor, and assistant principal at both elementary and middle school levels. Each experience has deepened my understanding of how to meet the needs of diverse learners and strengthened my passion for helping every child succeed.

I believe a school is not just a place where students learn academics—it is a community where children feel safe, supported, and inspired to grow. My goal is to create a culture of caring and success where each student can explore their potential, develop a love for learning, and grow into the very best version of themselves.

Having worked in such varied school communities, I know that strong partnerships between families, staff, and the community are essential for student success. Together, we can provide opportunities that not only prepare our students academically but also help them develop into kind, confident, and resilient individuals ready to make a difference in the world.

I look forward to building strong relationships with our students, families, and community partners this year. Let’s work together to make this a school year filled with growth, achievement, and moments that will inspire our students for years to come.

Warm regards,
Wil Farmer

Dr. Crystal Capps, Assistant Principal

It is with great excitement and sincere gratitude that I write to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal of Darden Middle School. I am honored to join a school community known for its strong commitment to academic excellence, character development, and student success.

With a background in education that includes elementary education (Kindergarten and grades 1, 3, &4), test coordinating in both K-12 Public Charter School as well as for Wilson County Schools, and Instructional Coach at Daniels Learning Center. I bring with me a deep passion for supporting students, collaborating with educators, and building strong partnerships with families. I firmly believe that middle school is a transformative time in a young person’s life, and I am committed to helping each student feel seen, heard, and valued as they grow into their full potential.

As I begin this new journey, I am eager to get to know our students, families, staff, and community members. You can expect me to be present, approachable, and responsive. I believe in open communication and shared responsibility—because when we work together, we create the best outcomes for our students.

Please know that my door is always open. I look forward to meeting many of you in the coming weeks—whether it's at school events, in the hallways, or during drop-off and pick-up. Together, we will continue to make Darden Middle School a place where every student feels supported and inspired to achieve their best.

Let’s make this an incredible school year!

With gratitude and enthusiasm,
Crystal Capps, Ed.D
